Two new Thematic Research Summaries available

The TRKC has published two new Thematic Research Summaries (TRS) - one on 'Urban Transport' and the other focusing on the range of possible measures that come under the heading of 'Information and Awareness'. The new Thematic Research Summaries aim to provide the reader with a synthesis of results from completed EU-funded projects and a selection of national projects related to each theme. The publications are intended for policy makers at the European, national and local levels, as well as any interested reader from other stakeholders and from the academic and research communities.

Urban transport is concerned with passenger and freight transport internal to built-up areas, and any journeys that have at least one end in an urban area.  This TRS covers the main elements of urban transport - motorised private traffic, public transport, non-motorised transport, service vehicle traffic and last-mile freight traffic.

The new Thematic Research Summary on 'Information and Awareness' is organised in two main parts, with the first including a brief overview of the scope of the theme and a summary of the main relevant policy developments at EU level. The second part then contains a synthesis of the main findings and policy implications from research projects and identifies the implications for further research.

The two new Thematic Research Summaries are available for download from the TRKC website's 'publications' section.

TRKC at the second stakeholders' conference on the future of transport

On 20 November 2009 the Transport Research Knowledge Centre will be present with a stand in the Charlemagne Building in Brussels for the European Commission's second stakeholders' conference on 'a sustainable future for transport'.

On 17 June 2009, the Commission adopted the Communication 'A sustainable future for transport: Towards an integrated, technology-led and user friendly system' and a public consultation was opened to give all interested parties an opportunity to express views on the future of transport and on possible policy options. A separate consultation was carried out between February and April 2009 to gather stakeholders' views on the Green Paper 'TEN-T : A policy review – Towards a better integrated trans-European transport network at the service of the common transport policy'.

The European Commission is now holding the second of its High Level Stakeholders’ Conferences to discuss the results of the two consultations and to gather the views of transport sector experts on long-term policy measures. As with the first stakeholders' conference, the TRKC team will be there with a stand at the conference venue.

The event is free of charge and the Commission expects around 600 attendees. Please consult the conference website for further information.
