Latest news from the Transport Research Knowledge Centre
We are back with the latest news about the Transport Research Knowledge Centre (TRKC). The TRKC is a free database featuring up-to-date information on European transport research activities. It enables policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders to access results of EU or nationally financed transport research in the European Research Area (ERA).
In this bulletin, we report on the following issues:
This Policy Brochure focuses on transport and its effects on the environment. Its aim is to inform transport policy makers and to assist them in designing transport policies that take better account of the environmental impacts of transport. The environment is broadly defined to include effects of transport on land, air, water and resources. The brochure draws a number of policy recommendations from the research it reviews. There is a strong case for promoting the more rapid development of alternative fuels and vehicle designs, both to offset the impacts of oil depletion and to tackle climate change. However, technology alone will not meet climate change targets; behavioural change will be needed as well, and the focus should be on integration of these two approaches.
The Policy Brochure on Transport and Environment is available for download in the 'Publications' section of the TRKC portal.
The ITS theme deals with several combinations of communication, computer and control technology developed and applied in the domain of transport to improve system performance, transport safety, efficiency, productivity, and level of service, environmental impacts, energy consumption, and mobility.
The Intelligent Transport Systems Thematic Research Summary is available for download in the 'Publications' section of the TRKC portal.
Railways deliver economic, social and, particularly, environmental benefits and are an important mode of transport. This document aims to provide the reader with a synthesis of available results from completed European research projects related to rail transport.
The Rail Transport Thematic Research Summary is available for download in the 'Publications' section of the TRKC portal.
Your personal TRKC
Our customised RSS feature allows you to subscribe – using a desktop Newsreader software or an online feed reader service – to updates on any specific search result. For example, you could use our Browse by funding origin page to see all FP6 project profiles. After your search, you can subscribe to the RSS feed on that specific result list, by clicking on the RSS icon above the results. From that point on, whenever we upload a new FP6 profile, you will see it appearing in your feedreader client. Similarly, you could use the Advanced Search page to look for information concerning Freight transport – or any other query, that's entirely up to you – and subscribe to the RSS feed based on the results.
New project profiles
See the latest project profiles available in our searchable database. There are about 400 projects from FP6 available (and almost 6 000 European and national projects in total). New descriptions and result summaries are being added continually.
New transport events
Find out what is going on in the world of transport research through the TRKC events calendar. New event announcements are published regularly.
